Sligo Rovers can confirm that the club has offered The Showgrounds for use for the BreastCheck mobile clinic after a location was unable to be secured in the centre of Sligo.
After learning of the issues of not being able to find a suitable home for the service, the Sligo Rovers committee agreed to offer the use of The Showgrounds and it will take up the location at the end of this month.
The club are aware that medical facilities in Sligo are of huge importance to the public and as such we are delighted to host this mobile unit.
This is part of the ethos of the Sligo Rovers – where our role is not just as a football club – but as an asset to the community of Sligo.
The mobile unit is now expected to be serving women in the region from the end of July and will remain at this location for approximately six months.
The move to The Showgrounds means that the service will be delivered closer to Sligo town, a matter which was raised as a key concern for many women and their representatives in the area.
Our location meets all of the site selection criteria and will allow BreastCheck to provide free mammograms to all eligible women in the area as close to their home as possible.
Sligo Rovers chairman Martin Heraghty said: “The club’s committee were delighted to approve this development.
“The Showgrounds is a place for the people of Sligo – and sometimes not just in sport. We will continue to strive to achieve our goals in the community. We receive significant financial backing from the public and know that arrives not just for the benefit of on-the-pitch, but off-the-pitch as well.”
