Keela Scanlon signs for Bit O’ Red Seniors

Sligo Rovers are delighted to announce that talented defender Keela Scanlon has signed for the senior squad for the first time ahead of the new 2023 SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division season.

Keela signed for Rovers from local youth club Yeats United, who continue to play a pivotal role in local youth football, back in 2020 and was named the Under 19 team’s Player of The Year.

Scanlon is currently an ATU Sligo student and is part of the University’s Senior Women’s team.

Manager Steve Feeney is thrilled to have Keela involved this season:

‘’This really is what the senior Women’s team is about. Until we started it last year, girls like Keela and lots of her team-mates who would become overage for our Under 19 team would have no football left for them in Sligo.

‘’Now, we can provide that for them and, it gives them something to aspire to be part of.

‘’Keela is a fantastic player and, her defensive capabilities will help us this season.

‘’We are looking forward to working with her in the season ahead.’’

Keela will be part of the squad who travel to take on Athlone Town tomorrow away from home. The game kicks off at 2pm and will be the squad’s second pre-season friendly after they played the same opposition last weekend.

Scanlon is happy to be part of the senior set up this year:

‘’I’m delighted to sign with the senior squad after coming through the Academy here at Sligo Rovers.

‘’I’m really looking forward to the coming season and to learn from Steve and the management team.

‘’Hopefully we can push on this season and continue to develop as a team’’.

The Women’s Premier Division season is just four weeks away where we host Shamrock Rovers at home on the opening day of the new season.

The game kicks off at 5pm and a large crowd is expected at The Showgrounds.

‘’Anais has been a great addition to the squad since arriving here last year.

Obituary: Sean Dwyer

Everyone at the club were deeply saddened at the passing of supporter Sean Dwyer yesterday.

Sean was a Season Ticket holder at The Showgrounds for many years as well as being a member of our 500 Club.

A former club committee member and treasurer, Sean rarely missed a Sligo Rovers match and was always a friendly face among fellow Bit O’ Red supporters.

We express our heartfelt sympathies to Sean’s family and friends at this difficult time.

We will remember Sean before tomorrow’s game against Wexford with a moment’s silence.

May he rest in peace
