Joseph Ndo will be first name in next Bit O’Red Wall phase

A tile celebrating Joseph Ndo will be the first part of the next section of the Bit O’ Red Wall at Sligo Showgrounds.

The first phase, made up of 315 individual tiles, was erected last year. It is part of the impressive new outdoor museum, immediately opposite the dressing rooms on the Treacy Avenue side of the ground.

According to Sligo Rovers chairman, Tommy Higgins, “ fans recognise that the Wall is one more way to celebrate the special bond between the club and the community. Behind every tile there is a story about the relationship between an individual or a family and Sligo Rovers. After the warm reaction to the first section, we promised that we would add to it. We are ready to begin that work.”

Joseph Ndo signed for Sligo Rovers from Bohemians in March 2010. He became an influential force during the most successful period in the club’s history. As well as being an elegant midfielder, he was a clever tactician and his reputation and influence attracted a number of other key players to The Showgrounds.

The tile, donated anonymously by a fan, will read
Joseph Ndo
SRFC Legend
Gentleman

The renowned Boyle-based stonemasons, Feelystone, will again have responsibility for the craft work. Each tile, costing €100, will accommodate 3 lines, with 16 characters including spaces per line.

The Wall provides fans with the chance to have their permanent place in The Showgrounds. It also allows supporters who are living away from Sligo to celebrate their links with the club. Another dimension of the project is it gives an opportunity to remember deceased family members and their long association with The Showgrounds.

As well as enhancing the ground, the Bit O’Red Wall helps to provide funds for Sligo Rovers. It is one more example of the initiatives taken by the club to make the Showgrounds as the beating heart of Sligo and a standard-bearer for the League of Ireland.

It is anticipated that fans may wish to purchase a tile in the wall as a Christmas gift. Shane Crossan is overseeing the work. Tiles may be bought by using the Sligo Rovers website or by phoning Shane at 087-7526445.

To order a tile online, you can click here.

Alternatively, to purchase a tile over the phone, or to seek more information, you can contact Shane at the above number.

An order form is given below for anyone who wishes to print an application form and return it to The Showgrounds or the club shop in Barton Smiths.

The Showgrounds Scheme is organised by a group including Frank Beirne, Michael Clancy, Kevin Colreavy, Shane Crossan, Mark Cummins, Andy Dodd, Colin Feehily, Tommie Gorman, Sandra Healy, Rory Houston, Paddy Houze and Brendan Lacken.

As a club, we feel cancelling the camp is the best way to protect our community.

All parents who had booked the camp have been contacted by the club and will be refunded accordingly.

Halloween Camp 2020 – Details

We are delighted to announce the details of our upcoming 2020 Halloween Camp, which will take place from Monday October 26th until Friday October 30th.

The camp will run from 10.30am until 3pm daily in The Showgrounds and is open to children between 5 and 15 years of age.

Unfortunately, our breakfast club cannot take place at this time.

Every child that participates will receive an official club training top.

Please note the booking process for our 2020 Halloween camp is strictly online only. The capacity of the Halloween Camp is set at 75 children.

We are aware that generally, our camps attract much more than 75 participants, however, we are also aware of our responsibilities as a club in making our environment as safe as possible for children, coaches and their families.

Priority will be given to our 2020 Super Red members, who are able to book the camp from now. Please note, bookings are open from today (Wednesday) until 9am Friday strictly for 2020 Super Red members only. (Super Red members are children under the age of 12 who have a 2020 season ticket).

Non super reds will be able to book the camp from Friday morning at 9am on a first come first served basis, subject to availability.

Successful Summer Camps Conclude

The 2020 Sligo Rovers summer camps have concluded, after five action packed and enjoyable weeks in The Showgrounds.

The club took the decision to run summer camps back in June, with each of the five weeks capped at 60 participants. The five weeks sold out over the course of just a few days, with the camp taking place from July 20th until August 21st.

Sligo Rovers would like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of the camps including the coaches, children and parents.

Camp Co-ordinator, Shane Crossan, spoke of his appreciation in having the camps back up and running and said:

“The last few months have been tough on everyone in the community, especially children. They lost normality in their lives and were forced to stay away from school, their friends and in some cases loved ones. To be in a position to offer our younger supporters a summer camp after a tough few months was magnificent.”

Shane added “A lot of hard work was put in behind the scenes at the club in order to make the camps safe and successful for everyone. I’m delighted to say the hard work paid off and the camps proved to be a major success”.

Sligo Rovers would like to wish all children the best as they go back to school in the coming weeks. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to The Showgrounds at our Halloween Camp in October.

Super Start To The Summer Camps

Week one of the clubs Summer Camps have just concluded, with children coming to The Showgrounds again for the first time since February.

The club would like to thank the children, parents and coaches for making week one of the camp such a success.

It was evident that all participants were delighted to be back amongst friends again in The Showgrounds.

The club have capped each week of the Summer Camp to 60 participants, with the first four weeks of the camp sold out.

There are only two spaces remaining for week five of the camp (August 17th-21st).

2020 Sligo Super Cup Table Quiz

The club has been a proud supporter of the SLIGO SUPER CUP over the past four years and we look forward to hosting the tournament here at the Showgrounds again on the week-end of April 24/26th.

In keeping with the impressive traditions of the under-12 elite tournament, this year’s line-up is once again top notch, with English Premier League academies, Newcastle United and Southampton set to make their debut in Sligo alongside the likes of Aberdeen, Derby County and our own Sligo/Leitrim league team.

To help defray the costs of hosting such a prestigious tournament, the organisers are holding a Table Quiz in Connollys Pub, Markievicz Road, on Wednesday next, March 4th at 8p.m. A fantastic array of prizes includes a Wolverhampton Wanderers jersey donated by Irish international Matt Doherty, whose family hail from Sligo town. Other valuable prizes include Rovers match tickets, Joma sportswear and restaurant vouchers.

We would urge the local football community to support this fund-raiser for a tournament which helps to underline Sligo’s place as a major soccer stronghold.
