Banks enjoying his time in Sligo

We spoke to Bit O’ Red defender Lewis Banks this week as he spoke about his season so far and his aims for the rest of the year.

Banks, 22, who joined from Stafford Rangers in February, has been a fan’s favourite this season, impressing from both right and left back, proving his versatility in either position.

Banks: ‘Sligo is quite similar to my hometown. Living with the lads in the house has helped me settle in and get to know them. We go and do stuff together so that helped me’

I still think there is room for improvement from me and the team. We’ve done well in bits but we can improve.

Banks may make his EXTRA.ie FAI Cup debut this Friday night against Glebe North. ‘ Hopefully we put a good run together from now until the end of the season and have a good cup run for ourselves and the supporters, starting at the weekend.

Under 19’s face Cabinteely test

Our under 19 side face Cabinteely tomorrow, Saturday at The Showgrounds in the Enda McGuill Under 19 Cup quarter final.

The game kicks off at 1pm and takes place on the main pitch at The Showgrounds.

We sat down with manager Brian Dorrian to discuss his side’s chance.

‘We were disappointed last weekend being beaten at home against Longford. The lads worked hard but the result didn’t go our way. They have to pick themselves up for tomorrow and see what we can do. Cabinteely will be good. They’re pushing for a top four spot in the league and we know we’ll have to be at our best to progress’.

In team news, The Bit O’ Red have made a couple of signings in the July window, with Darragh Forde and goalkeeper Cormac Henry making their debuts last weekend. Jerry Idahor picked up a head injury in the game and will be assessed before tomorrow’s game. Luke McNicholas played 90 minutes in the first team’s friendly with Cliftonville last night, which may mean he will be rested in the game.

‘The lads are looking forward to it. The fact it’s on the main pitch is another incentive for them to go out and perform. Hopefully, we see a decent turn out on the day and it’s a good occasion’.

We will be opening our BORST Clubhouse with tea, coffee and refreshments available on the day. Our club shop will also be open and we encourage all supporters to come out and support the lads.

We wish to thank our under 19 sponsor Aurivo Connacht Gold for their continued support. Visit their website here:

Admission is free.

Last Man Standing 2019/20

After the success of our two Last Man Standing competitions to date, we are delighted to announce we will be running a new competition starting on week one of the English Premier League Season beginning with the tie between Liverpool and Norwich on August 9th.

The competition created a real buzz between friends, families, work colleagues and team-mates and we hope this will be no different.

The entry fee remains at €10 per entry, with supporters allowed to enter as many times as they wish. We are hoping this will be our biggest competition to date, with tickets already being issued to eager participants.

For those who are not familiar with Last Man Standing, each competitor will pick a team from that weekend’s Premier League fixtures. If your team wins their game, you go through to the next round. If they lose or draw however, you’re out of the competition.

Tickets can be purchased from any committee member and are also available to buy in The Showgrounds office. (Monday-Friday between 10am&2pm). If you’re interested in selling tickets on behalf of the club you can email administrator@sligorovers.com

Alternatively, you can enter the highly anticipated competition
https://srfcdirect.com/last-man-standing/

Each entry costs €10 or €10.50 online.

All entrants to the competition will be contacted with deadlines and information closer to the kick-off times each week.

Competition Rules:

  1. Pay your entry fee before Week 1 — no need to pay again.
  2. There is a single prize of €1,000 which will be paid to the competition winner.
  3. Each week, simply pick a team playing a Premier League match that week – if your team wins, you go through, lose or draw and you’re out.
  4. You can only pick a team to win once in a competition, so you need to be tactical about who you pick and when.
  5. All selections must be in no later than 24 hours before the first game of the game-week. You can change your selection up to this deadline, a participant’s last pick will be considered their final selection. Selections will be available by text or email ONLY. It is the participants’ responsibility to ensure that the entry is submitted.
  6. If your team’s game is postponed after your selection you are automatically put through to the next round.
  7. If you forget to pick a team, you will be assigned one automatically. The selection will be the first available team in alphabetical order.
  8. An individual may enter more than one team. Each entry will be treated individually and will require a unique valid selection for each game week.
  9. Last Man continues until only one person remains and wins the pot. If more than one remain everyone goes through to the next round. If all remaining players lose in the last round, they all go through to the next round.

Updated Christmas Shop Stock – Christmas Collection option now Available

We have been astounded by the reaction to our Christmas shop so far this year. It has been our busiest and best to date, with many items sold out within days of release, and other item’s stock levels decreasing.

We have just obtained extra stock as we approach the final week before Christmas. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee delivery prior to Christmas for our online orders, therefore supporters are now able to make their purchase online, and the price now excludes delivery, meaning you can simply collect it in store at our Christmas Shop at Barton Smiths.

We understand supporters may begin to worry if their item won’t arrive in time for Christmas, so we believe this will help everyone and make things that little easier.

All prices now mirror the in store price, however, if you wish to still have your product delivered you can, buy simply clicking the link included with each product and adding the delivery charge to your basket as a seperate ‘item’.

We have had brand new kid’s winter jackets delivered as well as plenty more Joma teamwear and club merchandise and stocking fillers such as beanie hats, baseball caps, mugs & scarves.

Our 2019 Super Red offer remains the same, with kids between 5-12 inclusive getting a free away shirt with your season ticket.

We also have an offer for season ticket holders, who can get €15 off your Bit O’Red home jersey with every ticket purchased.

To visit our online store and reserve your items today, click the link below and simply pick it up in store in Sligo Town.

Bit O’ Red Team Up With Sligo Christmas Homeless Appeal

The club has teamed up with The Sligo Homeless Appeal which is fundraising on behalf of Focus Ireland Sligo and Shalomar men’s shelter and Sligo Social Services Homeless Department.

We will be helping out by offering our Showgrounds office and our Christmas Shop at Barton Smith, Hyde Bridge Sligo as drop off points, where we invite people to donate some items in aid of the Sligo Homeless Appreal 2018.

The items which are needed are long life foods, tinned food, pasta, noodle pots and all other similar items.

Essential items such as shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste/brushes, hair brushes and body wash items for personal hygiene.

Larger size jumpers or T-shirts are helpful as these can fit all different sizes. Winter hats, gloves and socks are also essential, especially at this time of year. The appeal will cater for both males & females so ladies essential items are also required as well as packets of biscuits or sweets which will be included as “treat items” for Christmas.

The club would like to stress the importance of this appeal and we urge our fantastic support base to get behind it and donate whatever they can, big or small.

Anyone who donates items in our Christmas Shop will be automatically entered into a draw to win a Sligo Rovers home jersey.

Office hours at The Showgrounds are Monday to Friday between 9.30am and 5pm, with our Christmas Shop at Barton Smiths open from 9.30am-6pm daily.

We thank you in advance for your fantastic support.

90th Anniversary Match Worn Shirts – Proceeds to Samaritans Sligo

Match worn jerseys from our recent 90th Anniversary match versus Bray Wanderers FC at The Showgrounds on October 6th are now available to buy online and in our club store.

The club will donate proceeds from the sale of the shirts to Sligo Samaritan Centre who were our Charity Partner in 2018.

The night proved to be a memorable one with a 2-1 victory ensuring our Premier Division status for 2019 along with a bumper crowd at The Showgrounds on the night. Caolan McAleer and Mikey Drennan scored the goals to give the Bit O’ Red all three points, and their shirts are included.

The special edition black goalkeepers shirt is also available.

Club chairman Martin Heraghty:

‘We were delighted to partner with Sligo Samaritan Centre for the 2018 season and have them on board as our Sligo Rovers charity partner. Positive mental health for people of all ages is of the upmost importance, and we hope we have helped the centre this season in terms of promoting their services and now, with our donation to the charity. These shirts are a real collector’s item, a perfect Christmas gift for the avid Rovers’ supporter, and also an important fundraiser for the organisation’.
