Our U17 Women’s side are back in action today as they make the journey to face Athlone Town at 7pm this evening for their third game in the U17 Women’s National League. Fresh from their defeat against Galway last weekend the Bit O’ Red girls will be looking to bounce back to winning ways.
Head Coach Damon Kearney is looking forward to the challenge “Athlone have had a solid start to the season with a win in Donegal and sharing the spoils with Peamount last weekend and they’ll be looking to at least hold onto their second place in the league table.
“We’re without Ava Keane and Kate Nugent who are both on holiday but Sarah Kiernan is back in the squad this weekend. Erin Taheny is also available for selection after her Athletics commitments saw her only feature as an un-used substitute last weekend. Alva Munnelly came into the team last week after being out for a few weeks with an injury and showed some decent touches so there is great competition for places at the moment.”
“We’ve said from the outset that performances and player development are the priority over results with this group of players and we will be giving all of our girls an opportunity to gain vital experience at this level throughout the season. This is a step up to in level from what any of these girls have experienced before, playing against top level players week after week.
“You can expect to see some team rotation as the games are coming thick and fast. We firmly believe that all the players involved in our setup are more than capable of playing at this level. By focusing on the performances and preparation for games, we are confident that the results will take care of themselves.”
The game will take place at Athlone Town Stadium at 7pm this evening. All support welcome.
