Sligo Rovers will host a special family-day at the Showgrounds for the game against Bray Wanderers on Saturday 6th October. A range of activities are being planned to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the club’s first competitive game in September 1928.
There will be a party atmosphere on the day, with free admission (and popcorn!) for Under 12’s. Benny the Bull will be assisted by a number of Disney characters making a guest appearance, and there will be inflatables, competitions and much more. Many of Rovers former players will also be in attendance, as the club marks this historic day.
On the night the club are inviting every player who has ever represented the Bit O’Red to come along on the night as our guests. We’re hoping to gather as many of our former players to celebrate the occasion and our combined history on the night. Any of our former players interested can accept our invitation via our RSVP Page.
Club Chairman, Martin Heraghty anticipates a special night for the club “This has been a long and challenging season, our supporters have been very loyal and this game provides us with an opportunity to say ‘thank you’ and to acknowledge the importance of our younger supporters in particular. The 90th anniversary celebrations also offer a chance to reflect on our long history, the many difficult years interspersed with some glorious successes. There is a great sense of history around Sligo Rovers, our supporters are keenly aware of our community tradition and ethos, and I hope people will make the effort to join us on this special day.”
Gates open from 6pm, supporters are asked to come early and be a part of our clubs 90 year celebrations. Under 12’s must be accompanied by an adult.
After match celebrations will continue in Foley’s Bar & Off Licence on Castle Street where entertainment and finger food will be served.
