Match Preview: WNL V Shelbourne

Our Women’s Senior team are back on the road on Saturday as we travel to take on current champions Shelbourne at Tolka Park (2pm).

The Bit O’ Red were disappointed to be beaten 3-1 at home to Bohemians last weekend in a game that was probably closer than the scoreline suggests.

The hosts have three wins from their opening three games and have continued their good form from 2021 into the early parts of 2022.

Manager Steve Feeney looks ahead to the tie:

”This Saturday sees us travelling to Tolka Park to take on the league’s reigning champions, Shelbourne. Only a few months ago we wouldn’t have dreamt of a Sligo Rovers Women’s team playing in a fixture like this, so it’s one we are obviously very excited about as we get to face a team brimming with exciting talent and Internationals. While we are delighted to be playing in games like this, it’s important that we continue to focus on our own performances and build on the many positives we have seen in our previous games.

The team continue to show a fantastic attitude and commitment each week and with the experience of more games it’s clear to see the ability they possess starting to show more and more and we need to continue pushing on in each game to make ourselves a team who can cause opposition teams some problems while making ourselves harder to play against”.

In team news, Yasmin Connolly, Keela Scanlon, Ciara Henry all miss out through injury while Orna O’Dowd(Quad) , Paula McGrory (Groin), Fiona Doherty (Quad) and Lauren Boles (Knee) are all doubtful.

The game is live on LOI TV From 2pm.
