McIntyre is both a former player and coach at The Showgrounds.

He signed for Rovers as a player in 1980 and was in goals for the FAI Cup final of 1981.

McIntyre left after two years at the club and returned for a brief spell again in 1992 under Dermot Keely. He had won the FAI Cup with Galway United in 1991.

Since retiring the Donegal man has had a long coaching career. He has previously had spells working with Derry City and Finn Harps.

He was Rovers goalkeeping coach in 2013 as the club won the FAI Cup that year.

In 1999 he began working with the FAI as national goalkeeping co-ordinator. McIntyre has worked with the Ireland under-19s for many years and has been involved with many other national underage teams.
